Surfmat Carry Bag - Black

Designed specifically as a travel bag for a surfmat. The design uses salvaged material scraps. Due to the random cuts used in the construction each bag has it's own individual character.

Materials

The acid-dyed artwork panel was from a previous project. The main sections on both front and back panels are tough 1000 denier nylon scraps reclaimed from a local sail-maker who was happy to see it reused.

The fabric used for the closure at the top of the bag is part of an old kite-surfing kite. If this tough nylon taffeta is good enough to hurl someone through the air - good enough to hold your mat in the bag.

Acid dyed

Some of the material for the rear panel features custom artwork that has been acid dyed and steam set. This process permanently impregnates the UV-stable textile dyes into the fabric. The dyeing was done by hand in the shed out the back of the house and set in my hand-built steaming chimney.
